Which Christmas movies were filmed in Dahlonega?

The short answer

The visitors bureau's film office lists three Christmas films shot in Dahlonega: Christmas in the Smokies (2015), Christmas in Homestead (2016) and A Taste of Christmas (2020). Christmas in Homestead is the Hallmark Channel title, filmed downtown in autumn 2016 with fake snow on the square.

What we will not claim

Fan sites tie particular scenes to particular doorways. We could not find a source that reliably matches each film to exact locations, so we have not drawn a scene-by-scene map. Local papers also reported two working titles during filming, which appear to be the same productions under earlier names. We list only the three titles the film office lists.

What the cameras came for is easy to find: the square, the 1836 courthouse in its centre, the storefronts around it and the Holly Theater on West Main Street. Walk a slow lap during Old Fashioned Christmas and you have seen the set, with real decorations this time.

The July fan event is something else

  • A ticketed fan event called Christmas in a Small Town was held at the University of North Georgia in July 2025. It is a separate event from the December celebration on the square. Garden & Gun

If you searched for tickets to a three-day Christmas movie event, that is the summer convention. The December celebration on the square is the town’s own. Free or ticketed? explains the difference.
