The season guide

What is Dahlonega’s Old Fashioned Christmas?

The short answer

Old Fashioned Christmas is Dahlonega's season-long celebration on its historic square. It opens with the Lighting of the Square on the Friday after Thanksgiving, which is November 27 in 2026, and the visitors bureau says it runs through the first week of January. Volunteers organise it, and the main events have no admission charge listed.

When it runs

The season has a simple shape. One big opening night, a quieter first week, the market and theater weekends, parade day in the middle of December, then family events in the days before Christmas. The lights stay on into the new year.
